“Innovation in Port Development workshop” at AASTMT Port Said branch

Within the contribution of Port Training Institute at Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in participating and effectively contributing ideas and insights towards the development of Egyptian and Arab ports, as well as the maritime transport sector, Professor Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute, inaugurated a workshop entitled: (Innovation in Port Development) on Monday, August 7th, 2023, using the hybrid system (Online remote training with physical attendance) at the Academy's branch in Port Said.

The workshop was attended by directors and officials from port authorities and maritime transport companies from Egypt and Arab countries.

The workshop's activities began with a speech by Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy,  welcoming the participants. He presented PTI vision on innovation in ports, types and components of innovation in ports, the importance of sustainable infrastructure in ports, and the international agenda for programs and diplomas offered by the institute in collaboration with major international institutions.

Captain Tarek Shahin, Executive Director of  Port Said Container and Cargo Handling Company, delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting the importance of employing technology in port development to achieve higher productivity while reducing ship waiting times on the dock.

Captain Ali Assem, General Manager of East Port Said Port, also welcomed the participants and introduced several modern ideas and methods for maritime port development, showcasing the model of East Port Said Port.

The first sessions of the workshop commenced with a presentation on "Digitalization in Port Development" by Dr. Gamal Abdel Nasser, Director of Education and Training at the Port Training Institute ,

Dr. Ayman El Nahrawy, Lecturer at  Port Training Institute, presented a session on "Environmental and Economic Sustainability in Port Development."

Dr. Maha Dewan, Executive Director of Logical Solutions and Consultations, delivered a session on "Collaboration and Partnerships in Port Development."

Dr. Eman El Haddad, Lecturer at the Faculty of Maritime Transport and Technology, Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, and Economic Advisor to the Maritime Transport Sector, presented a session on "The Role of Supply Chains and Logistics in Port Development."

The concluding session and recommendations were presented by Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy  including:-

 -The importance of implementing modern digital technology in ports,

- Continuous development of Egyptian ports in alignment with sustainable development goals

-Fostering partnerships between public and private sectors for optimal port investment,

-Adopting flexible supply chain concepts and smart logistics in ports, and embracing innovation in port operations and development.

It worth mention that this workshop is part of a series designed to simulate the global program for sustainable development in ports.
