AASTMT Participation in the International Workshop on Green Environment and Green Tourism

Within the celebration of the World Environment Day, the activities of the international workshop on “Green Environment and Green Tourism” that concerned with the role of green tourism in protecting the environment and promoting sustainability was held. The workshop was organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Center for Cultural and World Heritage at the Egypt Future Foundation, and a number of Egyptian and Italian universities. The workshop activities were held on 5 – 6 June 2024, with the participation of Dr. David Scalmani - Director of the Italian Cultural Institute, Dr. Alaa Abdel Bari – AASTMT Vice President, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Shandidi - Consultant of the Cultural and World Heritage Department and General Director of the World and Cultural Heritage Center, Dr. Saeed Al-Batouti - World Tourism Organization Representative, Dr. Badawy Ismail - Former Dean of Luxor Faculty of Archeology and Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Marwa Fawzi - Egyptian Cultural Attaché in Rome, and a number of representatives of Egyptian universities.

The workshop covered a number of topics, including the significance of the term of "green tourism," how to increase the benefits of tourism, how to overcome barriers, and how to support community-based initiatives to promote the idea of "green tourism" while enhancing infrastructure and reducing the negative effects of tourism-related economic activity. In addition to AASTMT efforts to support and promote the concept of green tourism were also reviewed through the international projects in which AASTMT participates, including the German-Arab-African cooperation project in disposing of marine waste to support tourism under the supervision of the German University of Rostock (TouMaLi), as well as through the (Unigreen) project in which a number of Egyptian universities were participated including South Valley University, Aswan, Matrouh, Alexandria, New Valley, Damanhour, Sadat City University, Al-Azhar, Suez, and Luxor, under the supervision of AASTMT in collaboration with the Life Makers Foundation, funded by the European Union, and also the Green Med project, which is managed by AASTMT in cooperation with Cyprus and Greece.
