A Successful Launch of the Green Economy in Ports workshop in collaboration with The British University in Egypt University

Port Training Institute, AASTMT is thrilled to announce the successful completion of our first collaborative workshop with The British University in Egypt University, "Green Economy in Ports"!

The event, held on, May 16th  at the British University's Cairo campus, brought together staff members from the university and participants from various Egyptian ports for a day of insightful discussions on sustainable port operations and development.

The opening session of the workshop set the stage with welcoming remarks from Prof. Mostafa Shazly , Director of Farouk ElBaz Sustainability Research Center of Excellence, and Assoc. Prof. Zeinab Younis, FHEA, UK , Head of the Green Economy Group who expressed optimism about future collaborations between both esteemed entities. Eng. Mohamed Abdelaziz, head of R&D department at PTI on behalf of Prof. Alaa Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Research and Consultation Center for the Maritime Transport Sector at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, offered greetings and emphasized the workshop's topic's importance. He also mentioned PTI's upcoming international agenda.

The core of the workshop then unfolded through a series of presentations. Dr. Mohammed Awad, Head of Research and Planning at the National Navigation Company, tackled the challenge of balancing environmental responsibility with operational efficiency in the global maritime fleet. Captain Ibrahim El Attar, Head of the Maritime Studies Department at PTI, explored the concept of the Blue Economy and its potential for achieving a sustainable future in global shipping. The focus then shifted to practical applications within Egypt, with Assoc. Prof. Elbadr Osman, Head of the Construction and Building Engineering Department at Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport , discussing green infrastructure in ports. Finally, Chemist Noha Eltokatly , Director of the Environmental Laboratories Department at Alexandria Port Authority, provided valuable insights into current green initiatives being implemented in Egyptian ports.

This workshop provided a valuable platform for participants to explore the critical role of the Green Economy in creating a more sustainable future for our ports. We believe collaboration is key to achieving this goal, and we're excited to continue working with the British University in Egypt on future initiatives.
