On Sunday Morning, November 26, 2023, Professor. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute, inaugurated a training program titled: Single Window System and its Role in Trade Facilitation under the Latest Legislation of the International Maritime Organization"

The program is conducted through online distance learning and involves 45 trainees from Egypt, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen. The program discusses topics related to the development and enhancement of skills in ports and the maritime transport sector to implement the Single Window System, scheduled to be enforced from the beginning of 2024 in accordance with the latest IMO legislation.

During the opening, Prof. Alaa Morsy presented the benefits of implementing the Single Window System and its positive impact on ports and the maritime sector. He also highlighted international collaboration between Port Training Institute and major ports and global institutions in the coming period.

The opening ceremony was honored by the presence of Mr. Amr Hussein, a representative of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), who outlined six key aspects for initiating the implementation of the Single Window System in maritime ports. Mr. Pascal Ollivier, responsible at the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), discussed ten essential factors for the correct and sustainable implementation of the Single Window System. Additionally, Mr. Warsama Guirreh, Head of the Djibouti Port Community System, presented the experience of the port community in Djibouti.

This initiative aligns with Port Training Institute's commitment to staying abreast of developments in the field of human resource development in ports and maritime transport institutions. It is driven by the amendments to the Facilitation of Maritime Traffic Convention (FAL) adopted by the IMO Facilitation Committee, making the Single Window mandatory for data exchange in ports worldwide. These amendments, expected to come into effect on January 1, 2024, represent a significant step in enhancing digital transformation in the maritime transport and port sector
