Towards Healthy and Successful Aging: Home Care Environments

Due to increases in chronic diseases, hospital costs, and aging populations, home care has become a growing worldwide trend in elder care. This lecture elaborates on the many current issues and challenges facing the home care services industry from various perspectives, including the epidemiology of aging and gerontology, demographic shifts towards an older population, and uncovers diverging strategies posited by different schools of thought in the medical field. This lecture also delves into the domains of home care service and offers a critique of current solutions.

Hsin-Hsien Chiu is currently the distinguished professor, assistant dean, as well as executive director of the Center for Digital Design and Innovation (CDDI) at the School of Architecture at Harbin Institute of Technology. He used to work as a lecturer and research scholar in the Dept. of Architecture in College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. He is also a director of research and design associate in architecture firms in San Francisco. Hsin-Hsien has been working in architecture practice for many years, including architecture firms, construction, and development companies in the United States and Taiwan. He has won several international architecture competitions individually, as well as placing first in several competitions as part of a team. Meanwhile, he is a writer and columnist for multiple publications on topics involving architecture, new media, health care, design, and fashion. He has published books, design projects, and articles on international conferences, architecture/ design magazines, newspapers, and national broadcast interviews.
