"Water Quality Measurements and Laboratory Techniques" Workshop

A 2 day training session on Water Quality Measurements and Laboratory Techniques for young water engineers, technicians and professionals
The activity was planned to contribute to SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation for all) & SDG 13 (Climate Action) SDG 15 (Life on Land. The event was organized by Dr. Karim Tonbol and with participation of Mr. Adham El-Ibrashi, Mr. Mohab Abdel Aziz and Mr. Muhammad Abu Sunna.

All attendees have trained on:
High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
Technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture. It relies on pumps to pass a pressurized liquid solvent containing the sample mixture through a column filled with a solid adsorbent material. Each component in the sample interacts slightly differently with the adsorbent material, causing different flow rates for the different components and leading to the separation of the components as they flow out of the column.

Gas chromatography (GC)
Technique for separating chemical substances that relies on differences in partitioning behavior between a flowing mobile phase and a stationary phase to separate the components in a mixture. The flame ionization detector (FID) is the most sensitive gas chromatographic detector for hydrocarbons such as butane or hexane.

Ion Chromatography (IC)
A chromatography process that separates ions and polar molecules based on their affinity to the ion exchanger. It works on almost any kind of charged molecule, including large proteins, small nucleotides, and amino acids.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (Icp)
