Waste Recirculating Project

The agricultural waste produced from the landscape activities in the main campus as well as the main kitchen of the students in the Arab Academy are considered as a great source of wastes. The Aquaculture Research Center (ARC) in the main campus is responsible for recycling these wastes. The recycling system, consists of 2 paths. In the first one these wastes are collected and introduced to the earthworm composting pens. The produced vermicomposte is then used back as an organic fertilizer used in the landscape actives. On the other hand, the sexual production of the worms leads to an increase in their number (3 folds). Part of the produced worms is then used in the fish culture activities in the ARC. In the second path the wastes are used to produce bio-gas and soluble fertilizers. The produced bio-gas is used in the different ARC actives as an alternative source of energy.

Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG)

Atmospheric water generators are devices that extract water from air. In Jan. 2013 we have made the early version of AWG with 30 Liter/day capacity. The device was completely designed, manufactured and tested in AASTMT Industry Service Center (ISC) workshops and Labs.

ISC won a grant of 650,000 EGP from Academy of Scientific Research & Technology “ASRT” for manufacturing a 150 Liter/day capacity device in the development plane of Halayeb and Shalteen as an Orientation of the Presidency of the Republic.

ECO House (2013- PRESENT)

ECO house is a sustainable house that can serve itself without any support from the government.

Industry Service Center (ISC) won a grant of 3,500,000 EGP from Academy of Scientific Research & Technology “ASRT” to build the first ECO house in Egypt and it will be built in North Sinai Governorate.

Our design was built to provide water (using our atmospheric water generator) and electricity (using PV system) to the house, then using water treatment to use the used water in planting.

Implementation of Intelligent Water Saving Irrigation Management System in Open-Field and Green-houses

The Project was designed according to the needs for development of the Egyptian Agriculture Water savings, to Interduce advanced technology and equipment, research and demonstration field based on the IOT technology. Precise irrigation and scientific planting is achieved through real-time monitoring of water quantity environmental  impact evaporation and rain fall. This will lead to  improvement in utilizing water resources, crop production and quality as well as reduce labor costs. The project is a cooperation between china - Arab States Technology Transfer Center at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (CASTIC - AASTMT), Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) Aswan University, Egypt and West China Electronic Business Co., Ltd China.

Enactus- AAST- Alex won 4 prizes in the annual Enactus Egypt National Competition (2019)

Enactus Egypt National Competition 2019 was held from 9-10 July 2019 at the InterContinental Hotel in Citystars - Cairo. Enactus is the largest student activity in universities around the world to reduce the gap between university education and the job market while developing students entrepreneurial skills, communication skills, presentation and teamwork. 35 teams from different universities in Egypt participated in the final competition this year. These prizes are awarded by companies for entrepreneurship through implemented projects and for their importance and quality.

Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hossam Shawky - Dean of Student Affairs in Alexandria, the Enactus –AAST-Alex team won 4 prizes, namely: 1. Project Quality Excellence Award from Annexes Egypt. 2. The second place award presented by Orange companies, Orascom and Juhayna to the universities participating in the League 3, with 7 participating universities. The AAST-Alexandria team presented three projects: 1. The first project: (Quinoa) an alternative to rice which has multiple benefits and advantages that are not found in rice as it has eight times the elements found in rice (magnesium - phosphorus - manganese - zinc) and also has a small amount of carbohydrates. This makes it suitable for athletes, and one of its most important features is that it saves water, as it consumes only 40% of the amount needed by rice in cultivation, which makes it save a large amount of water used in rice cultivation. The saved quantity can be used for other uses, and there are also many farmers who specialize in rice cultivation, but according to the current conditions and permission to grow rice in certain places, the farmers found the solution to grow quinoa instead of rice, and they participated in the cultivation of quinoa and the project was applied to multiple areas in Both Fayoum and Sadat City
