“AASTMT - League of Arab States” Workshop at the Suez Canal Authority in Ismailia

Within the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) keenness on keeping abreast of global developments in the maritime field, AASTMT and the League of Arab States (LAS) organized a workshop under the auspices of the Suez Canal Authority that entitled "An Arab mechanism study to support the field of ship repair and construction and the establishment of a database". The work shop was held during the period from 7 – 8 August 2023, at the Suez Canal Authority in Ismailia (Simulation Center), and in implementation of resolution no. (516) issued by the Council of Arab Ministers of Transport Session no. (35) November 2022.

The workshop activites were held in the presence of H.E. Admiral. Ossama Rabiee - Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, H.E. Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Bahgat Abu Al-Nasr - Director of the Economic Integration Department at the League of Arab States, H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President, and H.E. Rear Admiral/ Reda Ismail - Head of the Egyptian Maritime Transport Sector, and a number of senior officials from AASTMT and the Suez Canal Authority, in addition to delegations from various ambassadors and representatives of Arab countries transport ministries and representatives of the Union of Arab Chambers and companies specialized in the field of ship repair and maintenance.

It's worth to mention that the workshop aimed at presenting the vision and experiences of Arab countries, Arab and national institutions and federations working in the shipbuilding and repair industry, while focusing on the most important future development plans. Moreover, the participants took cruises in the new Suez Canal and visited Port Said Shipyard during the activities of the workshop, where the workshop coincided with the celebrations of the 8th anniversary of the new Suez Canal’s opening.
