Regional Informatics Center (RIC)

RIC is a division of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology (AAST), founded in 2001 and located in Alexandria, Egypt. AAST is a specialized organization of the League of Arab States, and RIC is its flagship center for informatics and robotics education and research in the Middle East and North Africa.

In recognition of the rapid technological advancements of the 21st century, particularly in informatics, AAST, under the inspiring leadership of Dr. Gamal Mokhtar, established RIC with the following goals:

  • To keep pace with the latest developments in informatics and robotics
  • To nurture the minds and talents of AAST students in these fields
  • To create a pool of highly skilled graduates who can contribute to the global advancement of informatics and robotics

RIC offers a wide range of programs and services to achieve its goals, including:

  • Academic programs: RIC offers undergraduate and graduate programs in informatics and robotics, as well as joint programs with other colleges and universities in Egypt and abroad.
  • Research: RIC supports research in informatics and robotics through its faculty and student research projects, as well as its collaboration with other research institutions and industry partners.
  • Training and consulting: RIC offers training and consulting services to industry and government organizations on a variety of topics related to informatics and robotics.
  • Community outreach: RIC organizes and participates in a variety of community outreach activities, such as workshops, seminars, and competitions, to promote interest in informatics and robotics among students and the general public.

RIC has made significant contributions to the advancement of informatics and robotics in the Middle East and North Africa. Its graduates have gone on to successful careers in industry, academia, and government. RIC has also played a key role in promoting research and innovation in informatics and robotics in the region.

In addition to its core programs and services, RIC is also involved in a number of other initiatives to promote informatics and robotics education and research in the Middle East and North Africa. For example, RIC is a member of the Arab Robotics Association (ARA), which is a network of organizations dedicated to the advancement of robotics in the Arab world. RIC is also involved in the organization of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), which is an annual competition for high school students with an interest in programming.

RIC is committed to playing a leading role in the development of informatics and robotics in the Middle East and North Africa. Through its programs and services, RIC is nurturing the next generation of leaders in these fields and helping to build a more prosperous and innovative future for the region.
