Student-Led Sustainability Activities and Environmental Awareness Programs
The total number of sustainability-related activities conducted annually is approximately 45, including workshops, events, competitions, and field initiatives, all of which are fully documented. The Deanship of Student Affairs is responsible for organizing and overseeing all these activities on the Academy campus.
During the academic year, the Deanship, in collaboration with student organizations, implemented a range of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices, including:
• Educational and Training Workshops: Training students on waste management, recycling, and energy efficiency.
• Conferences and Seminars: Discussing innovative student projects in the field of sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Description:

CITL Community Engagement – Alexandria
As part of its community service role, and in cooperation with the National Council for Women, CITL–Alexandria organized an awareness seminar within the “Know Us” Initiative on Monday, 8 December 2025.
The session was delivered by Ms. Hoda Abdelaziz in collaboration with Dr. Abeer Shabaan, focusing on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with special attention to the challenges faced by women with disabilities.
The seminar highlighted various forms of violence—physical, psychological, economic, and the less visible forms linked to marginalization and lack of accessibility.
To ensure inclusion, the event featured sign language interpretation by Dr. Hala Aliwa.
The session concluded by reinforcing the important role of educational institutions and society in spreading awareness, promoting respect, and empowering women.
Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being on Campus: Two Awareness and Support Events

College of Language & Communication (CLC) hosted Dr. Jaidaa Mekky, Professor of Neurology in Alexandria University, in an insightful talk on maintaining mental health and fighting depression. The session also addressed sleep disorders, their causes, and their impact on mental and physical well-being. CLC also hosted Ms. Cariene A. Aziz, a certified mindfullness techniques coach, in an inspiring session on mindfullness techniques to help students find ways to relax in times of stress. This initiative directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which emphasizes the importance of promoting mental health and well-being for all. By providing these tools, AASTMT confirms its commitment to fostering a supportive environment where students can build the emotional resilience needed to thrive. |

This student-facing forum strengthened climate-aware leadership and reinforced a culture of carbon reduction and sustainability awareness on campus.

Students participated in recycling drives as part of AASTMT’s sustainability engagement model. These activities supported recycling access, correct sorting behavior, and selected Scope 3 emissions reduction.

Students participated in energy-awareness activities promoting energy-saving behavior, efficient use of facilities, and awareness of low-carbon campus operations.
7. Tree-planting activities
Students participated in tree-planting activities supporting urban greening, climate resilience, and sustainability awareness.
8. Hands-on audits and waste audits
Students participated in practical hands-on audits, including waste audits linked to coursework and sustainability projects. These activities strengthened applied learning and supported campus resource-efficiency measures.
9. Renewable-energy walk-throughs and HVAC/BMS awareness sessions
Students participated in practical learning activities such as renewable-energy walk-throughs and awareness sessions on HVAC and Building Management Systems. These activities helped students understand how renewable energy, energy efficiency and building controls contribute to emissions reduction.
Historical supporting context:
AASTMT’s 2024 Carbon Emissions Reduction and Sustainability Progress Report confirms that AASTMT sustained strong student engagement in 2024 through programs coordinated with the Deanery of Student Affairs. It also states that AASTMT continued the engagement model used in 2022–2023, including recycling drives, energy-awareness activities, tree-planting and hands-on audits. In 2024, the activities emphasized regular student-led campaigns on responsible consumption and waste sorting, as well as practical learning opportunities tied to coursework and projects, including waste audits, renewable-energy walk-throughs and HVAC/BMS awareness sessions.

AASTMT’s student sustainability activities contribute to the university’s wider climate and sustainability pathway. They support responsible consumption, waste reduction, energy efficiency, renewable energy awareness, climate literacy and long-term behavior change. These activities complement AASTMT’s Climate Action Plan 2024 and its verified 2024 emissions-reduction progress, including a total carbon footprint of 103,862,750 kg CO2e, representing a 3.0% reduction from 2023 and a 32.8% reduction below the 2019 baseline.

She leads in Universities
On February 12, 2026, the AASTMT Sustainability Ambassadors, in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Department, and in partnership with the Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF), successfully organized an engaging session under the “She Leads Universities” program at AASTMT Abu Qir campus.
The session featured a dynamic Leadership Skills training delivered by Ms. Heba Mahmoud, focusing on building leadership awareness, enhancing communication and teamwork skills, and empowering female students to embrace their roles as future leaders capable of driving positive change within their communities ����
The activity also introduced students to the program’s objectives and opportunities, including capacity-building workshops, mentorship, and entrepreneurship support—offering a comprehensive platform for personal and professional development ����✨
