3.3.5 Mental health support for Students

2022-2023

Mental health support is provided through the students’ affairs deanery in the form of behavioral and cognitive therapy and family counseling by specialists. The clinics also offer more specialized therapy according to the case. Throughout the past year, highly qualified specialists have helped students all over AASTMT campuses to overcome emotional and mental complications. Different events have been organized to spread awareness and education of how to keep good mental health.


World Mental Health Day Workshop

Self-confidence and effective communication skills

The Deanship of Student Affairs organized a dedicated lecture for students titled Self-Confidence Skills and Effective Communication. This engaging session was presented by Dr. Reda Suleiman, who emphasized the significance of self-confidence as one of the essential skills that can be acquired and learned.

During the lecture, Dr. Reda Suleiman discussed various aspects of self-confidence, including its role in personal development and success. He provided practical tips and strategies for students to enhance their self-esteem and improve their communication skills, which are crucial for both academic and professional success.

Take care of your mental health

The Student Support Section, in cooperation with Support Club, organized a workshop entitled Take Care of Your Mental Health on World Mental Health Day, under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs, Alamein branch. Many students participated after the end of their educational day and discussed many topics related to mental health on Tuesday 10 /10/2023.

Workshop on self-awareness

In view of the interest of the Deanship of Student Affairs in Alamein branch to spread self-awareness among students, AAST Support clun, with the help of the Student Support Department, organized a workshop on self-awareness in which the Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Mohamed Nabil Al-Shayeb and students from various faculties attended.

During the summer camp of College of Medicine, trainers; Iynour Nabil, Ahmed Hassan and Seif Ata gave sessions about Mental Health and Burnout, Unearthing the Treasures of Literature and Motivation.

A very intriguing debate to discuss mental health issues was conducted in AAST-Alamein Campus.

The debate topics were:

1- There is a relationship between artistic talent and mental illness

2- Mental illness is stigmatized by society

3- Physical violence does not promote mental illness

Suicide is a serious public health concern. It can affect anyone and is complex with risk factors varying by age, gender, and ethnicity. Individuals suffering from suicidal thoughts often show warning signs that can be easily missed. By knowing what to look for and being direct with our concerns, we can help start conversations, encourage positive behavior change, and emphasize the importance of seeking help.

Mental health is just as important for men as it is for women, but there is still a stigma attached to men seeking help for mental health problems. This stigma can prevent men from getting the help they need, and it can lead to serious consequences, such as suicide.
