Description

The course aims at Acquiring knowledge of the order of chemical reaction, first, second and third order reactions, occurring in one step and multi steps, the rate determining step, parallel, consecutive, chain reversible reactions. Determination of the order of chemical reactions. Theories illustrating the reasons of increasing the rate of chemical reaction with temperature. Arrhenius equation, simple collision, the activated complex theories. Using mathematical modeling to determine the mechanism of chemical reactions. Catalysis; homogenous, heterogenous, contact and carrier catalysis. chain reactions, polymerization reactions and collision theory. Phase transitions, vapor pressure, solutions, interfaces, surface tension, wetting, absorption, surfactants, Gibbs adsorption isotherm, micelles, adsorption at gas/solid interface, heterogeneous catalysis, insoluble monolayers.
