    13.2.2 Low-carbon energy use

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) is proud to present its achievements in the utilization of renewable energy sources as part of our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. In this section of the report, we focus on Indicator 13.2.2, which measures the integration of renewable energy into our overall energy usage for the year 2021/2022.

The attached document, "Total Energy Used for all AAST campuses 2022," provides a comprehensive analysis of our energy consumption across various campuses, emphasizing our strides in adopting renewable energy sources. This analysis is crucial as it outlines the extent of our transition towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy practices.

Key highlights from the report include:

    • Energy Consumption Breakdown: The report details the total energy consumption for each AASTMT campus, offering an in-depth view of our energy usage patterns. This breakdown is instrumental in understanding the proportion of our energy requirements met by renewable sources.
    • Renewable Energy Integration: A significant portion of our energy consumption is derived from renewable sources. This includes energy harnessed from photovoltaic (PV) plants installed on our campuses and the portion of energy obtained from the national grid that is generated through renewable means.
    • National Grid and Renewable Contribution: The national grid, which constitutes a part of our energy supply, includes a notable percentage of renewable energy. As per the National Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) report for 2022, the grid incorporates about 20% renewable energy. This, combined with our on-campus renewable energy generation, substantially boosts our renewable energy profile.
    • Percentage of Renewable Energy Use: Our analysis shows that the total renewable energy resources in AASTMT's consumption represent around 22.28% of our total energy use. This is a clear indicator of our commitment to reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and aligning with global sustainability goals.

Through the initiatives and measures outlined in this report, AASTMT demonstrates its ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact and leading by example in the domain of sustainable energy use. We believe that our efforts in integrating renewable energy significantly contribute not only to the environmental well-being but also to the educational and social responsibility facets of our institution.
