Goal 17. Partnerships to achieve the Goal
In 2023–2024, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) promoted Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by initiating and engaging in organized cross-sectoral dialogues on the SDGs, uniting government entities, NGOs, industry, academia, and regional and international organizations. By participating in prominent forums such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) events, collaborative conferences, and technical sessions with partners like the University of Twente and ABB focused on electrical energy efficiency, as well as contributing to the Arab Artificial Intelligence Working Group on AI for sustainability, AASTMT facilitates platforms for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and multi-stakeholder collaboration regarding the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These activities facilitate cohesive dialogues on climate action, digital transformation, sustainable industrial development, and inclusive economic growth, while incorporating capacity building, technology transfer, and evidence-based methodologies into regional and international SDG strategies and action plans.

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) and the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) of the Russian Federation have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at advancing academic and cultural collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The agreement delineates a systematic framework for cooperation aligned with SDG 17, encompassing training and professional development initiatives for teachers and students, the interchange of academic personnel and scholars, as well as collaborative research and consultancy endeavors in mutual areas of competence. This cross-border partnership demonstrates a robust dedication to enhancing academic and cultural collaboration between institutions, facilitating systematic knowledge and technology transfer through exchanges and joint projects, advancing capacity building in education and research to fortify institutional capabilities, and endorsing inclusive collaboration by establishing enduring opportunities for students, researchers, and staff from both organizations to participate in seamless, mutually advantageous cooperation.

Renewal of the Cooperation Protocol between the Egyptian Council of State and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) renewed its cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Council of State and signed a new agreement with the Union of African Administrative Councils of State and Supreme Courts. These agreements focus on supporting digital transformation projects, ICT-enabled innovation, and knowledge sharing across member states.
The initiatives provide technical consulting, digital infrastructure development, and capacity-building support to enhance litigation systems and remote judicial processes. The signing ceremonies were attended by Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of AASTMT, Counselor Adel Fahim Mohamed Azab, President of the Egyptian Council of State, and senior officials from both institutions.
The agreements highlight AASTMT’s role in advancing digital transformation, fostering collaboration, and strengthening technological capabilities to improve governance and administrative efficiency across Egypt and the African continent.

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Digital Transformation Project of the Egyptian State Council to advance digital transformation in public administration. The partnership focuses on technical and executive consulting to automate and optimize the Council’s operations, improve workflow efficiency, and enhance transparency and accountability.
Key components include knowledge transfer, capacity-building workshops, joint development of a comprehensive digital project, and the integration of cutting-edge digital technologies. The collaboration aims to modernize public sector processes, strengthen multi-stakeholder engagement, and provide executive guidance, supporting a more efficient and sustainable governance framework aligned with international best practices.

AASTMT and Etisalat Misr Sign Agreement to Support Scientific Research, Training, and Student Development

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has signed a general cooperation agreement with Etisalat Misr, under which the company will provide EGP 2 million to support scientific research, development programs, and practical student training. Etisalat experts will also contribute to teaching both engineering and non-engineering courses, enhancing knowledge transfer and capacity-building. This partnership fosters strategic collaboration between academia and industry, promoting sustainable development in higher education and supporting skills development for future professionals.

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) and the Arab Bankers Association in Lebanon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in training, research, capacity building, and consultancy services across the Arab region. The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport - one of the technical arms and specialized organizations of the League of Arab States - participated in the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COPP28) held from the 30th of November – 12th of December 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Through the Arab League Pavilion in the Blue Zone, Pavilion No. MS01g2, the Academy organized a number of specialized technical sessions covering several topics which will be discussed throughout the conference days:

The workshop is entitled “Electrical Energy Efficiency Toward the Achievement of SDGs in Marine Applications: Power Drives, Shore Supply, Digitalization, Sustainability”. The speaker is Prof. Frank Leferink, Professor of Electromagnetic Interference & environment & Director Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) EMC at Thales, the Netherlands and Manager of the Network of Excellence of the Thales Group.
Electrical Energy Efficiency toward the Achievement of SDGs
Within the framework of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) endeavor to always look to new future prospects, and its keenness to remain as one of the effective arms and one of the specialized organizations of the League of Arab States (LAS) to provide its services to Arab countries to achieve their national goals, AASTMT organized the activities of the fourth meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Working Group, during the period from 7 - 8 June 2023, at AASTMT Alamein Campus. H.E Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President, participated in the meeting activities that was held on Thursday 8- 6- 2023. By 11 of June 2023, the student presented a graduation project related to Green hydrogen production in environment friendly way
The College of Engineering & Technology is keen to support the educational delivery process with experts in modern & sustainable development. The college hosted a workshop in November, 2022 by Dr. Nadine Ibrahim, Lecturer, Turkstra Chair in Urban Engineering, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of Waterloo considering attending COP27. The college faculty are committed to attending COP conference series to support the academic contents wit latest techniques that support the environment and sustainable developments.
Sustainability in Cities, Megacities and Megaregions
College of Engineering & Technology Launched initiative Sep, 2022 entitled” Towards a Green and Sustainable Future “. The initiative is inline the role of the Academy to promote awareness on serving the community and open dialogue between the Academy and schools to educate students and educational institutions about sustainable development goals. Today's activities were attended by more than 70 students and representatives of 7 different schools, in addition to the presence of Eng. Within the framework of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport interest in participating in international conferences and forums, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdel Bary - Vice President of the Academy and Professor at the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences - College of Engineering and Technology participated in the Climate Summit Conference held in Sharm El-Sheikh on Wednesday, November 16, by presenting a lecture "German African Mediterranean Cooperation Toward Prevention of Marine Litter"
The summit was run by the Environmental ministers of Egypt, Gabon and Senegal.
His Excellency`s lecture was the only case that was chosen to be presented in this axis as a model for African cooperation.

Within the framework of the College of Engineering and Technology’s interest in following up its distinguished graduates and its keenness on their participation in the various activities that achieve the country’s strategic vision and goals, an interesting meeting was held between Dr. Albadr Ossman Head of Construction & Building Department and Eng. Donia Maarouf to attend the COP27 organized by the Arab Republic of Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh to encourage and congratulate it on the occasion of its selection as one of the organizers of the United Nations Climate Youth Conference COY17, which was held in the first of November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Donia was also invited to attend a panel discussion with the Minister of Youth and Sports, His Excellency Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, in the Zarqa region, within the activities of the COP27 conference on the results of the Climate Youth Conference. The College of Engineering and Technology wishes it more success and excellence in its field of work. It is worth noting that Eng. Donia Maarouf has chosen to work in the field of environmental engineering since her graduation.
