In pursuit of its commitment to advancing fair wages as an integral part of Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) is dedicated to safeguarding its accomplishments and global standing. To remain responsive to contemporary developments and to promote excellence while addressing the imperative of equitable compensation, H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, the President of AASTMT, actively engaged in the interactive conference for Technology and Persons with Disabilities and the Exhibition of the Inventions and Technological Innovations for Persons with Disabilities in the Arab Region. This event, held under the theme "Towards supporting full inclusion and enhancing empowerment" on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Expo 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), significantly contributes to the attainment of SDG 8's objective of fair wages.
The conference was co-curated in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Community Development, and it forged partnerships with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the Arab Labor Organization, the Social Affairs Sector of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the United Nations Population Fund, and AASTMT. This initiative coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) and aimed to bolster the efforts of Arab nations to empower individuals with disabilities. Additionally, it sought to establish an Arab platform to foster innovations in assistive technology for persons with disabilities, ultimately contributing to fair and inclusive employment opportunities, aligning closely with the principles of SDG 8.
