Maternity and paternity leave policies are important for supporting working parents and promoting gender equality in the workplace. Universities are no exception, and many have implemented policies that provide paid or unpaid leave for new parents.
According to Our Equality, Diversity, And Inclusion Policy, as highlighted in AASTMT webpage in page 2 under title “Policy Statement” in first paragraph, Maternity leave policiestypically provide paid or unpaid leave for female employees who are giving birth. The length of leave can vary from a few weeks to several months. Some policies also include benefits such as health insurance coverage and job protection. (Employee guide available online)
As a result, our policies now support women's involvement in and return to the workforce, allow for flexibility during the first year after childbirth, and help parents balance work and family life.
