During the previous reporting year, AASTMT generated a total of 37 metric tons of organic waste across all campus operations. This total comprised two primary waste streams:

• Food Waste (17 tons): Generated from cafeterias, restaurants, student housing facilities, and campus food services. This category includes kitchen food waste such as fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, eggshells, leftovers, and food preparation residues.
• Leaf and Garden Waste (20 tons): Generated from landscaping activities, grounds maintenance, palm tree pruning, lawn clippings, and general green waste produced across the Academy's campuses.

YearonYear Reduction (2 Tons)

The Academy achieved a reduction of 2 metric tons in organic waste generation compared to the previous year, bringing total production down to 35 tons this year. Notably:

• All of the 2ton reduction came from the food waste stream (decreasing from 17 to 15 tons), reflecting the effectiveness of targeted food waste minimization initiatives implemented during the reporting period.
• Leaf and garden waste remained stable at 20 tons, as landscaping activities and campus green area maintenance continued at consistent levels.

• Food waste minimization practices in campus food services, including portion control, menu planning, and improved inventory management.
• Awareness campaigns targeting students and staff on responsible consumption and waste avoidance.

Treatment and Reuse – 100% Diversion Rate (35 Tons Treated)

Critically, all 35 tons of organic waste generated in the previous year were treated through reuse pathways, achieving a 100% diversion rate from landfill. This is a significant sustainability achievement and demonstrates the Academy's commitment to circular economy principles.

The treatment breakdown is as follows:

• Food Waste (15 tons) – Fully Reused: The entire food waste stream was processed through:
  • Vermicomposting using Eisenia fetida (red wiggler) to produce nutrientrich vermicompost.
  • Mechanical composting via specialized composter units, accelerating the natural decomposition process.
  • Agricultural recycling integrated with the Department of Agriculture and Landscape Design's production system.
• Leaf and Garden Waste (20 tons) – Fully Reused: All green waste was transformed into valuable soil amendments through:
  • Composting of leaves, grass clippings, and pruning residues.
  • Production of peat moss (20 tons of output) used as plant soil and soil conditioner.
  • Production of compost (15 tons of output) used for lawn fertilization and palm tree nourishment.
