[5.5] Shuttle Services

Description:

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) – Abu Qir Campus, Alexandria, operates an integrated transportation system to facilitate safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility for students, staff, and visitors across the campus.

Internal shuttle services are provided to enhance accessibility between academic buildings, student residences, parking areas, sports facilities, and campus entrances, particularly during peak periods and major university events. The transportation network includes internal shuttle buses and small transport vehicles, designated bus stops and waiting areas, and pedestrian-friendly pathways that are well integrated with shuttle routes to ensure convenient movement throughout the campus.

AASTMT also benefits from its strategic location along the Alexandria–Abu Qir transportation corridor, where public buses and other public transport options are readily accessible near the campus, helping to reduce reliance on private vehicles.

To further support sustainable mobility, AASTMT operates a free daily shuttle bus service linking the Abu Qir and Miami Campuses in Alexandria, a distance of approximately 20 kilometers. This service provides a convenient transportation alternative for students and staff, encourages the use of shared transportation, and contributes to reducing vehicle traffic and associated environmental impacts.

The positive impact of these initiatives is reflected in the continuous reduction in the number of vehicles entering the campus, driven by lower private car usage, optimization of university-managed vehicles, and the elimination of motorcycle access. Through promoting shuttle services, shared transportation, and carpooling practices, AASTMT contributes to reducing traffic congestion, fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and the overall carbon footprint of campus operations, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

Shuttle Fleet and Operational Data

AASTMT operates a comprehensive fleet of modern, fully air-conditioned vehicles equipped with the latest technical amenities.

Additional Services and Features

GPS-Enabled Safety System: All vehicles are equipped with GPS devices that enable the Transport Department to locate and coordinate vehicles, ensuring passenger safety during daily trips.
Free Wi-Fi Connectivity: All buses offer complimentary Wi-Fi service, enhancing the commuting experience for students and staff.
Accessible Transportation: A GPS-tracked shuttle service is available for students with mobility challenges, providing door-to-door support between campus facilities.
Private Sector Partnership: AASTMT has an agreement with SWVL, a private transport company, to provide discounted trips to students heading to the university, with a dedicated bus stop located at the external parking area.
New Route Expansion: AASTMT has introduced new bus routes connecting the Al Alamein branch with key urban points, residential neighborhoods, and public spaces, encouraging public transport use over private vehicles.
