Sustainable AASTMT

Strategic Leadership

Develops and implements AASTMT's institutional sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Egypt's national sustainability vision, and international higher education sustainability frameworks.

SDG Programme Oversight

Has sole institutional authority over the design, delivery, and evaluation of sustainability programmes addressing all 17 SDGs across all AASTMT campuses and academic disciplines.

Student Engagement

Oversees the AASTMT Sustainability Ambassadors (SSA) programme; develops youth leadership initiatives; coordinates flagship sustainability events including the annual AAST Youth Sustainability Talks.

External Partnerships

Establishes and manages partnerships with UN agencies (UNDP Egypt), international networks (Anna Lindh Foundation, Chatham House), and Egyptian civil society organisations (Banlastic Egypt, Empower Hub, Rowcycle, Youth Leaders Foundation).

Digital & Media Presence

Manages the unit's YouTube channel (@sustainabledevelopment-c2n) as a public-facing platform for sustainability content, event recordings, and SDG awareness campaigns.

Institutional Reporting

Participate in the annual SDG Impact Report submitted to the Environmental Sustainability Committee and the RDSU. Provides evidence for QS, UI GreenMetric, and THE Impact Rankings in the sustainability governance pillar.

Gender & Social Inclusion

Leads women's empowerment and gender equality programmes (e.g., She Leads in Universities) in alignment with SDG 5, in partnership with external organisations such as the Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF).

Director of Sustainable Development

Dr. Omneya Darwish

Sole institutional responsibility for advancing sustainable development strategy, SDG implementation, and sustainability governance at AASTMT. Oversees all unit programmes, partnerships, and reporting. Reports directly to AASTMT’s President.

Programme Coordinator — Sustainability Ambassadors

Dr. Omneya Darwish

Coordinates the AASTMT Sustainability Ambassadors (SSA) programme. Serves as moderator and academic liaison for sustainability events. Reports to the Director.

Sustainability Events & Communications Officer

 Mariam Helmy

Manages logistics and communications for sustainability events, workshops, and panel discussions. Maintains the unit's YouTube channel and digital presence. Reports to the Director.

Research & Partnerships Officer

Eng. Amira Mamdouh

Develops and maintains external partnerships with NGOs, EU programmes, UN agencies, and international sustainability networks. Supports grant applications and collaborative projects. Reports to the Director.

SDG Reporting & Data Officer

Dr. Omneya Darwish

Tracks and documents all unit activities against SDG targets. Participates in annual SDG Impact Report. Provides data for institutional ranking submissions in coordination with the Research, Data Science & University Ranking Unit (RDSU).

Focus: leadership awareness, communication and teamwork skills, and women's empowerment. Introduced students to YLF capacity-building workshops, mentorship, and entrepreneurship support. Co-organised by SSA and the Sustainable Development Department.
