Sustainability Committee and Executive Oversight
1. Institutional Overview
AASTMT has formally established a Sustainability Committee as a permanent component of the university's governance structure. The committee is tasked with providing strategic direction, institutional alignment, and policy oversight for all sustainability-related matters across the university's campuses. It directly supports AASTMT's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
2. Formation and Composition
The Sustainability Committee operates as a multidisciplinary, cross-campus governance body, ensuring that sustainability principles are integrated into all dimensions of university life, including education, operations, infrastructure, student engagement, and external partnerships.

The inclusion of an executive leadership representative as a permanent member, alongside academic deans, quality assurance officers, operational managers, faculty SDG coordinators, and elected student representatives, ensures that the committee has both the authority and the institutional reach to drive meaningful change across all campuses.
3. Executive Leadership Involvement
A defining feature of AASTMT's Sustainability Committee is the direct and permanent inclusion of a member of the executive leadership team. The Vice President for Community Service, Sustainable Development, and Training:
- Serves as a core, permanent member of the Sustainability Committee.
- Chairs high-level strategic planning sessions.
- Ensures that sustainability objectives are integrated with AASTMT's overall institutional priorities and resource allocation decisions.
- Acts as the institutional authority responsible for the university's sustainable development mandate.
This executive-level engagement ensures that sustainability is not siloed within a single unit but is embedded into the highest levels of university governance and decision-making.
4. Roles and Responsibilities of the Committee
The Sustainability Committee meets on a regular basis to carry out the following functions:
- Review and evaluate university-wide sustainability initiatives across all campuses.
- Provide strategic recommendations on sustainable infrastructure, curriculum development, and community engagement.
- Approve sustainability action plans and institutional targets.
- Oversee institutional reporting for sustainability rankings.
- Guide partnerships with national and international stakeholders in the field of sustainable development.
