Workshop entitled " TRENDS TO THE FUTURE IN LEATHER PROCESSING" by the Portuguese expert: Joaquim Gaiao
Within the framework of the Ministry of Trade and Industry`s strategy to promote industrial development and foreign trade 2020, which aims to increase the competitiveness of the domestic product, increase the rate of industrial growth, maximize the added value of the Egyptian product, and push the wheel of production to increase development in the Egyptian domestic market.
The College of International Transport and Logistics has the honor to inform you that cooperation has taken place between the Ministry represented by the Industry Council for Technology and Innovation with the Arab Maritime Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport to raise awareness of the most important and latest modern technologies in the field of tanning and leather industry. Therefore, the workshop was organized in the presence of the Portuguese expert under the umbrella of the project project INNOVATION FOR THE LEATER INDUSTRY IN JORDAN AND EGYPT “INNOLEA” funded by the European Union program Erasmus plus and in which the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and South Valley University are representatives of the Egyptian partners.
The implementation of the project started in 2017 and over a period of 3 years, in order to benefit from the experience of the European Union partners in the field of specialized services for the leather sector.
The project aims to:
● Establishing specialized centers to provide quality testing services for leather and training services for industrial workers, in addition to consulting services to solve problems and develop industry, in order to fill a clear gap in the leather sector in Egypt and Jordan. Two specialized centers have been established in Egypt, one at the Arab Academy, and the other at the University of the South Valley. In addition to 2 centers in Jordan at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, and the other at the University of the Balkans.
● Establishing a link between universities and companies in the leather sector, which would enhance innovation and manufacture high-quality products, as well as increase cooperation between universities of the European Union, Jordan, Egypt and leather companies.
● Promote research and projects between universities of the European Union, Egypt and Jordan in the leather sector, by establishing a network for innovation and research training, which will continue to operate after the end of the current project.
● Creating a virtual electronic platform We aim for cooperation between newly established leather centers, leather centers, European companies and tanneries, local companies and other relevant stakeholders such as policy makers, research centers and initiative groups who wish to establish other leather centers / universities interested in establishing leather centers. This platform will continue to operate even after the project is completed.
