Dr. Rasha Morsi is a Professor and Founding Director of the Creative Gaming and Simulation (CGS) lab in the Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University (NSU).
Dr. Morsi is an exceptional scholar with extensive research experience in the areas of Modeling, Simulation, Visualization, and Training Technologies (MSV&TT) design and development, Formal Methods, and Data and Visual Analytics. Dr. Morsi's research has been supported by several agencies securing her over $5.3M in funding from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Defense, among other public and private agencies.
Dr. Morsi is also a pioneer in the design and development of assessment-based games and interactive simulations for education. Her innovation in the use of modeling and simulation in the design and development of these educational tools has earned her Governor McDonnell's prestigious 2012 SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award. This is just one of Dr. Morsi's slew of honors and awards. Dr. Morsi has been recognized as the 2009 YWCA Woman of Distinction for Science and Technology for her service to her profession and the community. She was also named one of the 2008 Diverse: Issues in Higher Education’s Emerging Scholars. In 2007, she was the first recipient of the NSU ‘University Award of Excellence,’ an award given to a faculty member who has performed in a superior manner in teaching, scholarly activity, and service. This is one of the highest honors the University can bestow on one of its faculty.
Her Research Interests lies in: Modeling and Simulation, Game Design and Development, Interactive Web-based educational tools for Electrical and Computer Engineering, Robotics/Humanoids, Gender diversity in STEM fields.
