SAFER is implemented through five interlinked Work Packages (WPs). Each WP has a clear lead partner and a set of tasks, deliverables, and milestones that guide implementation from start to finish.

WP1 — Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

Lead: International Hellenic University (IHU) — Greece
Duration: M1–M36 (October 2025 – September 2028)

WP1 ensures strong project governance, coordination, reporting, monitoring, quality assurance, and risk management across the whole consortium.

WP2 — Needs Assessment, Strategic Planning, and Capacity Building

Lead: Uzhhorod National University (UzhNU) — Ukraine
Duration: M1–M12 (October 2025 – September 2026)

What WP2 covers

WP2 identifies partner needs and establishes the strategic and capacity-building foundation for the curricula and digital learning activities that follow.

WP2 Tasks

  • T2.1 Assessment of the needs of higher education institutions (HEIs) for research and teaching on climate change resilience and sustainable agriculture in developing countries.
  • T2.2 Organize institutional workshops to discuss HEIs' needs assessment in the areas of research and teaching on climate change resilience and sustainable agriculture in developing nations.
  • T2.3 Development of a strategic plan
  • T2.4 Organize seminars and workshops to debate and present the strategic plan
  • T2.5 Conducted teacher and staff development training sessions

WP3 develops and pilots the curriculum and learning materials, and establishes the online environment supporting the project’s training and education goals.

  • T3.2 Creating the "Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems" curriculum
  • T3.3 Creating Materials for Teaching and Training
  • T3.4 Creating an Online Learning Environment

  • T3.6 Pilot testing of the newly developed courses

WP4 — Community Engagement and Industry Collaboration

Lead: Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) — Jordan
Duration: M12–M36 (September 2026 – September 2028)

What WP4 covers

WP4 connects the project with communities and industry, supporting local workshops, collaboration mechanisms, and practical links to stakeholders.

WP4 Tasks

  • T4.1 Creation of a Plan for Industry Collaboration and Community Engagement
  • T4.2 Planning (and taking part in) workshops with nearby communities and industries
  • T4.3 Creating the SAFER Network, a collaborative network in the field of sustainable food systems
  • T4.4 Developing relationships with the local businesses
