Hapag-Llyod Seminar
The College of International Transport and Logistics in El Alamein has organized a scientific activity for the second semester with a distinguished seminar on navigational alliances.Ms. Rehab Ahmed, Director of Customer Service Hapag-Lloyd Egypt, was hosted by the College of International Transport and Logistics in El Alamein on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.The symposium reviewed global changes in the field of maritime transport and the continuous mergers of shipping lines during the past years. In recent years, the global shipping market has witnessed mergers and alliances between major shipping agencies and smaller lines, the latest of which was the joining of “KLINE, MOL & NYK” lines under the name ONE, in addition to the merger of Maersk and Hamburg sud lines, and the merger of APL with CMA-CGM, The merger of Cosco with china shipping, and the merger of UASC with the hapag-lloyd Shipping line alliance. This indicated that the whole world is currently moving towards merging major shipping lines with smaller ones to maximize profitability and optimal exploitation of assets. We find that the container transport companies five years ago were several major alliances, which have now become 3 alliances, which is reflected in improving the performance of the company and its logistic centers, and reducing the cost of Transport, which also prevents small lines from entering the competition.
As Ms. Rehab clarified, she explained that the new mergers provide the Suez Canal with an opportunity to deal with one agent instead of dealing with more than one agent with a larger business volume and marketing opportunities. The session ended with a general discussion of the importance of the labor market for college students and its distinct, unique, and non-traditional specializations. Finally, the host also reviewed training opportunities during the summer vacation for students of the College of International Transport and Logistics in El Alamein.
