Objectives

  • In this module, the students will learn to appreciate and value the IS in business contexts, paeticularly in management planning, decision making and control. The contribution of the effective management of information systems and technology into the competitive success of the organisation. The students will learn to evaluate current methods and techniques used to develop business and information strategies and to align the two.

Course Contents

Knowledge and understanding 1. understand the role of Information systems in modern business and the competitive advantage they can deliver for a company;2. evaluate critically those current methods and techniques used to develop business and information strategies;3. critically asses the impact of technological advances on the behaviour and performance of organizations;4. discuss the benefits of and approaches to the adoption of enterprise-wide integrated systems, in different organizational contexts;Subject-specific practical skills5. organising and implementing MIS; 6. research an emerging IS application;7. evaluate organizational impacts of IT;Key/transferable skills8. write a discursive essay assembling and structuring ideas from a variety of sources;9. explore and assess different approaches to problem-solving; 7. Understand how to manage operational Information Systems.
