Objectives

• The Training Program improves and consolidates Participants’ ability to translate from a source language (SL) into a target language (TL) following a professional standard. It also raises their awareness of cutting edge market-oriented translation skills and competencies. Participants will be aware of the tools, techniques and strategies used to solve translation problems. They will be introduced to the problem of non-equivalence in translation and to strategies suggested by professional translators as a way out

Outcomes

1. Demonstrate expertise in their working languages in the practice of translation.2. Demonstrate in-depth theoretical knowledge and know-how relevant to translation.3. Demonstrate they have appropriated the intercultural knowledge necessary for the comprehension, analysis and contextualisation of texts being 4. Create and realize original, applied research implementing a scientific approach and rigorous methodology in the field of translation, terminology and translation studies.

Course Contents

Module (1): By the end of this Module, Participants will be able to:1. Describe various kinds of translation and interpretation 2. Define various methodologies, approaches and theories governing translation 3. Identify appropriate reference tools specific to discipline4. Explore websites, standard references and sources for problem-solving 5. Analyze the features of English and Arabic 6. Apply translation defending output by adopting a methodological approach.Module (2): By the end of this Module, Participants will be able to:1- Explain the features characteristic of various text-types 2- Identify the features of language for translation 3- Outline the common errors of translation 4- Contrast texts translated for analysis 5- Edit translated texts 6- Develop inter-lingual /cross-cultural competence
