Objectives

  • The Training Program improves and consolidates Participants’ ability to translate from a source language (SL) into a target language (TL) following a professional standard. It also raises their awareness of cutting edge market-oriented translation skills and competencies. Participants will be aware of the tools, techniques and strategies used to solve translation problems. They will be introduced to the problem of non-equivalence in translation and to strategies suggested by professional translators as a way out

Outcomes

1. Professionally communicate, by employing their expert language skills and adapting to the context and target audience; respectfully and constructively interact and collaborate with the different actors involved in a given situation by employing verbal and nonverbal skills.2. Act as a translator demonstrating professionalism in respect of the ethical principles and quality standards of their profession, develop their professional image and position themselves on the job market.3. develop expertise and a high level of skill in the fields of terminology, terminology technology, localisation, technical writing and translation and localisation project management in order to be able to engage in their new translation profession effectively.

Course Contents

Module (3): By the end of this Module, Participants will be able to:1. Outline the levels of non-equivalence in language 2. Distinguish between modernist and traditionalist schools of thought in lexicography.3. Distinguish between lexical and technical meaning of subject-specific vocabulary.4. Identify context-free words in texts from various fields.5. Build an active vocabulary for each field of study.6. Use vocabulary in each field of study without recourse to references.7. Apply adequate problem-solving techniques and strategiesModule (4): By the end of this Module, Participants will be able to:1- Develop firm understanding and application of Localization and Internationalization 2- Assess and Evaluate translation assignments professionally 3- Analyze the translation market potentials and issues. 4- Define the types of translation clients locally and internationally 5- Analyze and Evaluate different codes of ethics.
