Objectives

• This course aims to acquaint students with the practical skills of simultaneous interpreting from Arabic into English and vice versa. Students will receive intensive training in the skills involved in simultaneous interpreting, inter alia, speech perception, mnemonics, speech production, coping with different accents and making inferences when unsure. The training methodology involves a progressive and reasoned gradation in the difficulty and content of the audio text.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:1. Develop the ability to listen actively, evaluate and interpret complex verbal messages.2. Consistently produce accurate and clear interpretations in a wide variety of situations, while also adapting their communication style to suit different contexts and registers.3. Acquire skills in managing cognitive and physical demands associated with simultaneous interpretation, such as memory recall, mental agility and concentration.4. Develop critical thinking skills by analyzing and interpreting information from a range of topics and sources.5. Develop the ability to summarize and paraphrase complex information while maintaining its original meaning.
