Objectives

  • This course provides knowledge of different types of marine equipment used for telecommunications with vessels and proficiency in the use of marine communication equipment e.g. VHF, including frequencies and their uses. Moreover, identify the requirement for providing proper Communication Facilities.

Outcomes

• know the flags of the international Code of signals and the significance of the single-letter signals.• Know the procedures set out in the international Code of signals and how to make use of the publication.• Responding to a distress signal at sea.• Transmission and receipt of information by visual signaling.• They will also know the procedures to use in radiotelephone communications and be able to use radio telephones, particularly with respect to distress, urgency, safety and navigational messages.

• Introduction and definitions and methods of signaling.• The definitions according to the international code of signaling.• Life- saving Signals, Signals to be employed in connection with the use of shore life – saving apparatus, Landing signals for the guidance of small boats with crews or persons in distress, Famous Hoists, and Special Hoists.• The meanings of single letter signals, The purpose of the International Code of Signals, The contents of the international code flags and pendants. • The usage of the answering pendant.• The methods of transmitting the Numerals group?• The methods of transmitting the Decimal point?• How to act when signals are not understood?• How the end of signal is indicated?• How to use code and decode G.S • Famous hoists ( CQ – CS – VF – VE – ZQ – ZL – ZP – YQ – YV – YV1 – YZ – YN – NC – RQ ……….etc.• Using Flags & identity signals. & How to use code and decode G.S.• Famous hoists Distress signals, the use of substitutes & how to use code and
