Objectives

• to provide training in the use of radar & ARPA to meet the minimum standards in table A-11/1 of STCW and section B-1/12 of STCW 78

Outcomes

will recognize when radar & ARPA should be in use and select a suitable mode- will be aware of limitations of the equipment- acquire targets and take action to avoid a close quarters situation

Course Contents

theory and operation of radar system- set up and operate marine radar- perform manual radar plotting and compile a full report- use of radar to ensure safe navigation and action to avoid collision- operate ARPA system- obtaining the information from ARPA displays and application of collision regulations- evaluation
