Objectives

  • This course is meant for officers, rating and any person assigned basic duties and responsibilities related to cargo operation or cargo equipment on oil and chemical terminals and on-board Oil and Chemical tankers. By successfully doing this course, the aforementioned trainee will fulfill the mandatory minimum requirements of regulation V/1-1 of STCW 1978, as amended. Based on guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.01, ISGOTT and ICS tanker safety guide Oil & Chemicals.

Outcomes

After successful completion of the course the participants will demonstrate the knowledge of equipment, instrumentation,Identify and perform the different cargo operations carried out by Chemical tankers including the operation of inert gas system, describe and perform tank cleaning &gas freeing cargo tanks in accordance with the standards accepted by the industry, explain and apply contingency measures in the event of emergency during such operations, improve their confidence will result to a more efficient cargo officer on board their assigned ship or work place.

▪ Introduction – chemistry and physics ▪ International and National Regulations and Codes of Practice ▪ Characteristics of oil & chemical cargoes ▪ Securing the ship at Oil and chemical terminals (Hose/loading arm connection and disconnection) ▪ Associated hazards, Hazards control and MSDS ▪ Oil and Chemical Tanker Design and Equipment ▪ Oil and Chemical Tanker Operations and handling system ▪ Tank cleaning operations / WWT (Wall Wash Test) ▪ Terminal operations and ship/ shore interface ▪ Pollution Control ▪ Emergency Procedures, operation and contingency planning
