The trainees who successfully complete the course should be able to demonstrate. familiarization with cargo handling on board an LNG tanker during normal and emergency operations; a greater awareness of the need for proper pre-planning, the use of checklists and timescales involved in the various LNG cargo and/or ballast handling operations an enhanced awareness to apply proper and safe procedures at all times when carrying out the various operations on board an LNG tanker; an acquisition of experience in identifying typical cargo and/or ballast related operational problems ( and solving them) on board an LNG tanker; and an improvement in the ability to make decisions which promote safety and protect the marine environment.
Familiarization (Types of containment system- Pipeline arrangement and cargo/ ballast systems- Instrumentation and controls- Cargo pump and pumping operation) Ballast operation (General provisions (MARPOL, SOLAS, Load line, etc)- Ballasting- De-ballasting- Ballast water management system) LNG -Operation sequence overview (Cargo tanks drying and filling insulation spaces- Inerting- Gassing Up– Cooling down- Loading- (Loaded Passage- Pressure maintenance and boil-off management)- Unloading- (Ballast passage- Pressure maintenance and boil-off management)) Post-delivery (yard/dry-dock) pre- departure operations- Stripping and gas freeing (Final inspection stripping- Cargo tanks drying and filling insulation spaces warming up- Inerting- Aerating- Evacuating insulation spaces (membrane type only) Emergency Procedures (Emergency shutdown system (ECDS)- Cool-down (cargo tanks) emergency cargo valve operations- Emergency unloading)
