Objectives

• To know the historical background, the main structure and the aim of the Convention To be familiar with the crew and staff obligations under the BWM Convention, including requirements for a ballast water management plan and ballast water record book To know the adopted regulatory requirements and the enforcement of ballast water management To know how to prevent the negative effects of ballast-borne invasive species To be familiar with the various types of Ballast Water Treatment Systems

Outcomes

The trainee will be familiar with the severe damage resulting from untreated ballast water disposal The trainee will be competent in ballast handling The trainee will obtain the optimum skills in ballast operation The trainee will be familiar with the inspection performed by port state control The trainee will be familiar with the IMO requirement regarding ballast treatment The trainee will know the simple and correct methods of filling in the ballast water record book
