Objectives

  • The IMO was adopted the resolution A.918 (22) for the use of SMCPs and recommended a wide circulation to all prospective users and all maritime education authorities. The SMCPs include phrases which have been developed to cover the most important safety-related fields of verbal: Shore-to-ship (and vice-versa), ship-to-ship and on-board communications. The trainer who will pass this course successfully will be able to communicate by using standardised language used during navigation at sea in different situations.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the trainee will be able to communicate with others by using standardised language during: Navigation at sea in cases of distress, urgency and safety, in port-approaches, in waterways, harbours and on-board vessels with multilingual crews.
