AASMT Training Courses

Objectives

  • This course is designed to cover general information about the classes and components of forklifts used in the workplace. It also covers the principles necessary to understand for safe loading, transferring loads, and unloading. Forklift operator training requirements and general best practices in operating, servicing and maintaining forklifts are discussed. The hazards associated with operating forklifts in enclosed areas and construction sites are also discussed which means in end of The course the trainee will be with greater awareness of:• The kinds of forklifts commonly available• The principles of physics that allow a forklift to lift and move heavy loads safely• Forklift operator training requirements• Some basic operator safety rules• Safe practices when operating a forklift• Hazardous locations• Forklift Inspections• Safety while servicing a forklift

Outcomes

• Identify the classes and designations for forklifts.• Identify and give examples of hazardous workplace conditions and factors to consider when operating a forklift.• Describe forklift operator qualification and training requirements.• Define and give examples describing forklift "stability triangle," "center of gravity," and "moment."• Describe safe practices when operating a forklift, including traveling and moving on uneven surfaces.• Describe requirements for forklift operations, including loading, traffic patterns, housekeeping, and maintenance records.• Describe requirements for gas/LPG forklift maintenance and safe work practices.• Describe electric forklift maintenance procedures and safe practices.• Identify and describe the special forklift attachments used to affect the capacity and safe use of a forklift.
