Objectives

  • How to deal with various electrical equipment and machinery (alternating and direct current), in addition to means of protection and prevention.• Developing the skills of engineers and technicians working in the field of electrical maintenance by defining them to identify and repair various faults and protect electrical systems from faults.• Dealing with electrical circuits components.• Dealing with electrical power distribution panels.

Outcomes

• Repair and maintenance of generators and motors (alternating and direct current), as well as protection systems.• Dealing with electrical power distribution panels (medium and low voltages) in addition to different earthing (grounding) systems.• Troubleshooting and repair of faults.

Course Contents

1- Introduction to electricity:• Health and safety issues for electricians;• General principles on electricity (voltage, current, resistance,…etc.); • Electrical charge and static electricity;• Electric and magnetic field(s);• Electrical generation in machines.2- Direct current (DC) machines [generators + motors]:• Theory of operation;• Construction;• Characteristics;• Voltage control (generator);• Starting methods and speed control (motor).3- Alternating current (AC) machines [generators + motors]:• Theory of operation;• Construction;• Characteristics;• Voltage control (generator);• Starting methods and speed control (motor).4- Control (Contactor) circuits in motors: • Start-stop application;• Reverse of motion application;• Star (Y) / Delta (Δ) starters application.5- Troubleshooting and maintenance procedures:• Electrical equipment fault-finding and fixing (repairing);• Electrical equipment installation;• Maintenance routine(s).
