At the end of the Capacity Building Program, participants will be familiar with: - IMO objective i.e. safe, secure and efficient shipping on clear oceans. - United Nations (UN) System. - IMO structure i.e. Assembly, Council, Committees and Sub-Committees. - IMO regulatory regimes and instruments i.e. Conventions, Protocols, Codes and Guidelines. - IMO Documents and publications (IMO DOCS). - Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS).
The role of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) had been changed from a consultative to regulatory then to a monitoring and regulatory organization. This Capacity Building Program aims to provide participants with knowledge on the IMO as a specialized United Nations agency with a global coverage in maritime transport field, and to show, as a regulatory body, the IMO role to improve shipping safety, security at sea and marine environment protection.
