Objectives
- This course is designed to facilitate the delivery of training in the competence requirements of the modern Global Maritime Professional–Body of Knowledge (GMP-BoK). The course provides intensive knowledge for Maritime instructors on this modern concept and how to use it as a development tool for curriculum development under the merged concept of STCW/GMP. In addition, it provides a modern sound basis for the GMP Implementation process in terms of Course and Curriculum development / design. The course take into considerations how to keep specifications of the accreditations of the maritime programs.Finally, the course adopts implementation of the modern student-centered framework, as well as, the Triple Helix concept which takes into consideration the educational programs connectivity and curricula outcomes with the needs of the Industry.
Outcomes
• Identify the current gap and critically differentiate between the MET programs under the conventional standards of STCW convention (as amended) and programs under the merged concept of STCW/GMP, in the context of student competency and readiness to apply the gained knowledge.• Recognize the theories and taxonomies of modern higher education systems and its main tools, • Understand the main concepts of the GMP-BoK in terms of satisfying the maritime industry needs,• Correctly apply the intended learning outcomes (ILOs) in different domains of the GMP model on the level of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)• Appropriately apply and merge the GMP-BoK concept within the entity’s objectives and academic system in terms of AASTMT’s Strategic Plan,• Examine and assess the current status of educational programs using the GMP mapping matrix• Successfully design, redesign or edit a course utilizing the GMP-BoK
