AASMT Training Courses

Objectives

  • A large proportion of accidents involving small vessels are weather related. Bad weather makes the environment onboard a vessel extremely hazardous. It also places a lot of strain on the vessel’s structure, cargo, equipment, and the people on board. With today's fast turnaround of ships and increased pressure on meeting ETA’s, it is important for ship’s officers to correctly plan and weather route the ships optimally to arrive at the destination in time with no damage to ship and cargo. Bon Voyage System (BVS) weather routing software of meteorological and oceanographical data extrapolated to give a forecast for the most favorable route for ocean crossing by ships.

Outcomes

1. Decide which route will minimize any risk of damage to the crew, vessel, and cargo.2. Achieve the required ETA.3. Sail the optimal route with minimal cost.4. Route the vessel optimally utilizing data obtained from BVS.5. Utilize the advice provided by BVS routing services to best advantage.
