Objectives

  • • Practice the skill of listening to natural speech in order to obtain specific information.• Introduce students to common two-part adjectives to use them descriptively.• Get students thinking about beliefs, qualities and attitudes.• Practice students' intensive reading skills.• Develop students' ability to express themselves fluently.• Develop students' use of the functional language in terms of arguing for and against in a group discussion.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, Learners can do the following:Reading and Listening topics:• Read various texts intensively at a word, sentence and paragraph level.• Prepare clear explanations of notes.• Obtain information, ideas and opinions from highly specialized reading sources.Writing and Speaking topics:• Synthesize and report information and arguments from a number of sources.• Write letters conveying degrees of emotion and highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences.• Writing skill: natural reporting / linking devices / using qualifiers / persuasive language / impersonal language.• Explore the differences between alternative structures.• Discuss in groups the topics of various listening activities.• Use contractions in natural speech.• Carry out role plays in a semi-formal meeting.
