Objectives

  • - Develop students' reading skills and ability to read fluently and confidently.- Use a range of strategies when drawing meaning from a text.- Use a rich variety of vocabulary and sentences appropriate to text forms.- Revise and edit his/her writing during and after composing.- Developing Students reading skills by providing them with different types of reading texts.- Developing key reading sub skills such as skimming and scanning.- Identifying the main ideas of texts or paragraphs.- Developing receptive vocabulary of items in articles through focused activities.- Encouraging active contribution in learning by leading them to observe structures in context to figure out language use and form independently.- Skimming for main ideas and scanning for details.- Building academic vocabulary by using contextual clues to infer meanings.- Using pre - writing strategies to plan writing.- - Using grammatical structures accurately.- -Delivering an effective oral presentation.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, Students can do the following:- Recall the main idea and the details that support it.- Verbally summarize paragraphs accurately.- Talk about personal experiences using present perfect with regular and irregular verbs.- Independently write a three paragraph essay.- Read different articles about websites and horoscope and recognize key sentences describing future plans.- Write a paragraph about future plans with predictions about a person’s life in the future.- Making guesses and hypotheses using future tense - Identify new vocabulary through contextual clues.- Talk about future possibilities using adjectives and compound nouns- Write a paragraph with effective introduction and conclusion.- - Distinguish fact from opinion.- - Students will give oral presentations and receive feedback on their performance. - Students will summarize information from academic sources which should be clear and organized.
