Objectives

  • • To enable students to understand the conceptual framework for financial reporting, preparing the basic financial statements—the statement of income, the cash flow statement, the retained earnings statement, and the statement of financial position—including presentation and disclosure issues and accounting issues (both procedural and conceptual) related to the asset side of the statement of financial position.• Introduce an in-depth review of accounting issues associated with liabilities and shareholders’ equity, as well as consideration of matters related to presentation and disclosure of these items.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course , the learners will be able to :• Prepare financial statements (income statement, retained earnings statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement. • Demonstrate an understanding of the problems related to measurement and disclosure of owners’ equity.• Apply the principles and practices of the recognition, measurement, and reporting of accounts receivable and notes receivable.• Demonstrate an understanding of the various cost flow methods to account for inventory, including items to include in inventory, lower of cost or market, and correcting prior period inventory errors.• Classify and account for investments in various financial instruments using the cost/amortized cost, fair value-net income, and equity methods in accordance with IFRS standards.• Demonstrate an understanding of the conceptual framework of financial reporting with particular emphasis on the underlying assumptions, principles and constraints of the financial accounting
