Objectives

  • • Develop students' usage of strategies like rereading, predicting, questioning, contextualizing when comprehension breaks down.• Use reading and writing for various purposes on their own initiative. • Write short topics that are personally meaningful using present simple tense.• Identify an increasing number of words by sight.• Comprehend the overall and internal organization of short reading passages.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:• Read and retell short familiar stories• Use strategies (rereading, predicting, questioning, contextualizing) when comprehension breaks down. • Orally read with reasonable fluency. • Use letter-sound associations, word parts, and context to identify new words. • Sound out and represent all substantial sounds in spelling a word.• Identify the main idea(s) in the text.• Distinguish main idea(s) from supporting detail,• Attempt to use some punctuation and capitalization
