Objectives

  • • Understand the purpose of an OH&S management system including the principles of hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control and compliance with legal and other requirements as described in OHSAS 18001.• Understand the purpose of OH&S management system standards, of management system audit and of third-party certification.• Understand auditor role and responsibilities, and acquire the skills of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow-up an occupational management system audit in accordance with ISO 19011 and ISO/IEC 17021.

Course Contents

This course gives students a broad understanding of the OHSAS 18001 standard and occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system principles. The course enables participants to acquire the principles and techniques in conducting safety management system audits. Effective auditing of business processes and practices according to an OH&S management system helps to identify areas of conformity as well as areas requiring improvement. Delegates will develop effective auditing skills and knowledge of current best practices to aid continual improvement through focused OH&S audits. Successful implementation of the course meets part of the formal training requirements for those seeking registration under the IRCA Auditor Registration Scheme
