AASMT Training Courses

Objectives

  • The ELTTC aims at: • enabling trainees to acquire the subject knowledge of the four language skills• providing trainees with the tools of effective lan-guage teaching techniques• enabling trainees to demonstrate and practice their teaching skills • preparing trainees to teach high school/early col-lege age.

Outcomes

By the end of this course the students will be able to:1. manipulate various teaching methods and tech-niques in teaching the four skills2. use various classroom management techniques3. design and evaluate various course materials4. design various reliable and valid testing tools5. design various lesson plans covering the four skills

Course Contents

I. Core modules Trainees take seven core courses with a total of 54 contact hours. The core courses provide the trainees with the fundamental techniques and skills required for teaching the English Language to high school and early university age. 1. Teaching Methods2. Teaching Vocabulary and Grammar3. Teaching Listening 4. Teaching Speaking5. Teaching Reading6. Teaching Writing7. Testing and AssessmentII. Elective ModulesTrainees choose three elective courses with a total of 30 contact hours. The elective courses provide the trainees with additional knowledge that would help them in teaching the English Language to high school and early university age. 1. Materials Development2. Classroom Management 3. Teaching Technology4. Teaching Learners with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities5. Using Literature to Teach Language6. Teaching Study Skills7. English for Specific Purposes
