  • This course focuses on the principles and procedures for cathodic protection systems theory, design, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of structures (pipelines and tanks) for both galvanic and impressed current Solar and transformer rectifier systems.

• Acquaintance with the scientific concepts of corrosion mechanism. • Clarifications of the concepts of polarization and depolarization.• Concept of cathodic protection.• Standard criteria for cathodic protection. • Typical cathodic polarization characteristics.• Types of cathodic protection systems (galvanic and impressed current systems).• Review of worldwide cathodic protection STANDARDS (NACE, BSI, API, …etc.).• Monitoring of cathodic protection systems.• Cathodic protection DC and AC interference problems.• Detection of stray current on metallic structures.• Mitigation of interference effects.• Cathodic protection design fundamentals.• Evaluation of cathodic protection systems performance.• Close interval and DC voltage gradient potential surveys.• Troubleshooting cathodic protection systems.
