SDG1- No Poverty Report (2021/ 2022)

In pursuit of the primary objective outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG1) to eradicate poverty in all its forms globally, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) has strategically implemented a multifaceted approach. The institution has committed itself to specific goals, including increasing the proportion of students receiving financial aid, developing university anti-poverty programs, and extending its reach to community anti-poverty initiatives.

AASTMT has demonstrated its dedication to alleviating financial barriers for students by providing financial support to a significant percentage, ranging from 10% to 15% of new students each semester. This support is contingent upon the submission of necessary supporting documents. Recognizing the financial distress faced by some students and their families, AASTMT actively identifies and supports those unable to meet their academic dues in full. The academy ensures that individuals receive either full or partial financial assistance based on individual case studies, accompanied by moral support from various entities within the institution.

Moreover, charitable organizations have played a pivotal role in supporting AASTMT's mission by offering scholarships and financial aid to students in need. These initiatives aim to empower financially challenged students to pursue their academic aspirations, fostering a conducive environment for continued education.

In addition to financial aid, AASTMT has extended its commitment to SDG1 by providing training courses and programs that enhance access to basic services, contributing to the broader goal of poverty eradication. The establishment of the AAST Entrepreneurship Center in 2015 reflects the institution's proactive role in fostering youth development, promoting entrepreneurial culture, and supporting the creation of innovative startups. Operating across borders in the Arab and African regions, the Entrepreneurship Center aspires to be a central hub for entrepreneurs and a catalyst for startup growth through incubators and other support programs.

AASTMT has also embraced its role in social responsibility, engaging in a spectrum of academic and non-academic activities aimed at positive development in the social, economic, and environmental realms. This commitment extends not only to the region and the Arab world but also resonates globally, contributing to the collective efforts to address poverty comprehensively. Through these initiatives, AASTMT emerges as a dynamic force aligning its actions with the overarching vision of SDG1, striving to create a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and communities.
