The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) was established in 1972 as League of Arab States Specialized Organization. Over the years, AAST has extensively diversified its operations and now offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, while successfully maintaining its regional dominance in the field of Maritime education, research, training and consultation.

AAST is one of two universities in Egypt accredited by the prominent ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), and the only university in Egypt accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). AAST International Transport programs are accredited by FIBA, and management programs by AACSB.
