Ahmed Abd El Aziz is born in Alexandria, Egypt. He obtained his BSc degree in Electronics and Communications department at Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport, (AAST) in 2003. He was then appointed as a teaching assistant at the same university. He received his MSc degree from same university, in 2006. He then joined Optical Communication Research Group (OCRG) at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and achieved his Ph. D degree in 2012. At the same year he joined Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport, (AAST) as a lecturer and in 2013 he founded the Photonic Research Laboratory (PRL). He became associate professor in June 2016 and a professor in June 2020. He is supervising a number of research students in Egypt and UK and has published 50 papers. He was appointed as the Vice Dean for student affairs in the College of Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology AAST and acting Vice Dean for practical training as well as higher education and research in November 2019. He is a reviewer for a number of IEEE and IET conferences and journals as well as an invited speaker in international conferences. He has also helped in organizing few IEEE conferences and currently a member in the technical committee of IEEE conferences. His research interests involve Passive Optical Networks, Optical Communications, All-Optical Routing, LTE, Radio over Fiber (RoF), Free Space Optics (FSO), Visible Light Communications (VLC), Photonic Devices, Li-F, Photonic Signal Processing, LED-LED, and optical in Biomedical Applications. Ahmed is the IEEE AAST-Student Branch Alexandria Counselor since summer 2015. The branch won many prizes as the best branch and best events in Egypt section and the region 8.
