Course Learning Outcomes

• Understand the principles of tugboat operations, including maneuvering, towing, and escorting
• Gain proficiency in handling different types of tugs (e.g., azimuth stern drive tugs, tractor tugs)
• Learn safety protocols during tug operations, including emergency response and evacuation procedures.
• Understand the risks associated with towing and how to mitigate them
• Ensure stability during towing, pushing, and escorting maneuvers
• Familiarize with international regulations (e.g., SOLAS, COLREGs) relevant to tug handling

Objectives

• The aim of this course is to give the trainees the experience of handling TUGS effectively and to be aware of all factors affecting the maneuvering and handling of TUGS. The trainees will be able to plan berthing, Escort and Docking, taking into account the prevailing conditions of wind and tide.
