Reham Farouk Fathy Elshazly

biography

Dr. Reham El Shazly is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the College of Language and Communication, Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Cairo. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics and Education from Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK. Dr. El Shazly serves as Associate Editor for Behavioral Sciences of Terrorism and Political Aggression (Routledge) and Insights into Language, Culture, and Communication (AASTMT). Her research spans applied linguistics and interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on multimodality, social semiotics, Systemic Functional-Multimodal Discourse Analysis (SF-MDA), pragmatics, cognitive linguistics, pedagogy, and second/foreign language acquisition. She also engages with cross-disciplinary themes in virtual reality, AI, social communication, forensic linguistics, forensic architecture, and film and game studies. She is a certified IELTS speaking and writing examiner and has presented her work at international conferences, including TESOL International (Seattle, 2007), IALIC (Valencia, 2019; Lisbon, 2022; Nicosia, 2023), and ADDA 5 (Tilburg, 2025). Her recent publications appear in Language and Semiotic Studies (De Gruyter Mouton), Digital Scholarship in the Humanities (Oxford), Russian Journal of Linguistics (RUDN), Visual Communication (Sage), Language and Intercultural Communication (Routledge), Review of Cognitive Linguistics (Benjamin), Semiotica (Walter de Gruyter), Expert Systems (Wiley), and the International Journal of Arabic-English Studies (Librairie du Liban Publishers). ????
